Plants Vocabulary

producer – Plants are producers. That means they make, or produce, their own food. Plants use energy from sunlight to make food.

oxygen – When plants make their own food, they produce oxygen. The oxygen is released as a gas into the air. Most living things need oxygen.

vascular plant – A vascular plant is a plant with special tissues that move food and water throughout a plant.

flower – A flower is a plant part that produces seeds.

seed – A seed is a part of a plant that can grow into a new plant.

fruit – A fruit is a covering that protects seeds.
